GARMIN NBAA ANNOUNCEMENT |
| Updated - 2011-03-17 00:14:38 |

Honeywell and Collins with G5000 Avionics.
Garmin is stepping up into the business aviation big leagues with a Part 25 integrated avionics system called G5000 that will square off against business jet cockpits from industry heavyweights Honeywell and Rockwell Collins. Garmin’s move into the Part 25 cockpit market has been anticipated ever since the company broke into the lower echelon of business aviation with a version of the G1000 avionics system in the Cessna Citation Mustang. Last year, it ratcheted up its efforts, launching the G3000 for the HondaJet. The launch customer for the G5000 is Cessna. The G5000 system will share the multifunction touchscreens originally developed for the G3000 cockpit. In the new cockpit there will be a dedicated touchscreen for each display connected through a common network. According to Garmin, the configuration will be scalable, allowing the installation of between three and five displays, depending on the application. The new cockpit will also feature larger displays than those found in the G1000 or G3000, measuring 14.1 inches diagonal for the new GDU 1400 display and 12.1 inches for the GDU 1200 display. The displays will boast 1280- by 800-pixel resolution and LED backlighting for excellent brightness and sunlight readability. |

MID-CONTINENT INSTRUMENTS |
| Updated - 2011-09-09 16:22:16 |

Mid-Continent Instruments has announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded the Approved Model List (AML) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to the company’s MD835 Lithium Emergency Power Supply.
The MD835 Emergency Power Supply is the first Lithium Nanophosphate™ battery to be AML STC approved by the FAA for use in Part 23 aircraft. This TSO C179 certified battery supplies 24.5 VDC power for critical and standby equipment and maintains full capacity by recharging during normal flight operations. The AML STC includes a list of 30 aircraft, including the Beechcraft King Air 90, 200 and 300 series, Beech 1900, Beechcraft Premier and Cessna Citation 501, 525A and B models. “This is a great accomplishment by the Mid-Continent Instruments team of engineers who worked on this project using state-of-the-art technology,” said Tom Genovese, director of sales. “It gives owners of these aircraft an easy-to-install, lower-cost-of-ownership option for their standby battery requirements.” As a direct replacement for the legacy lead-acid-powered L-3 PS-835, Mid-Continent Instruments’ MD835 standby battery utilizes the same mounting rack, wire harness and flight deck ARM/OFF/TEST switch. This new design weighs in at 4.8 pounds — more than 8 pounds lighter than competing products. Maintenance intervals for the MD835 are only every two years, compared with legacy lead-acid designs’ yearly capacity check. And with a life expectancy of 10 years, the MD835 easily outlasts the typical lead-acid battery’s three-year replacement schedule. The MD835 standby battery is one in the company’s new line of True Blue Power™ products, which are designed and manufactured by Mid-Continent Instruments. Current production includes aircraft inverters and emergency power supplies, to be followed by batteries. |
