Flight Recorders have come a long way since their introduction in the late 1950's, and in parallel with the coming of the Jet Age, these system evolved from Foil Tape, to Digital Tape and now Solid State Systems with crash survivability improving with every evolution.
CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorders) and FDR (Flight Data Recorders) have been required on all Air Transport Aircraft for some time are being required on more and more aircraft. These recorders have become essential in determining the chain of events that lead up to the cause of many aviation accidents through the years.
Today, we offer SSCVR's (Solid State Cockpit Voice Recorders), SSFDR's (Solid State Flight Data Recorders), and combination recorders, SSCVDR's (Solid State Cockpit Voice & Flight Data Recorders).
An important consideration when a recorder system is required, is that almost all Flight Data Recorder are installed via the STC certification process, where CVR's can quite often be installed via the field approval process.
